"Must have lost his seat race" or "Must be married to the stroke seat"? You decide. :)

Nikolay's also been known to pull a mean oar or two...

A new Charles River lifeform. This one's a heavyweight, for sure.

Tuesday, June 17, 2008

The sweep women may have mentioned that there wasn't enough pictures of them on the blog.. So of course I waited until at least one of them was sculling. Though Rachel and Kit are still rowing a pair, so that counts!

Chasing the flag... Pretty appropriate for Roth and Nichols..

Looks like the collegiate summer rowers have finally arrived.

John tried a standing shove into a wake... Let the record show that he succeeded. It's the seated push that got him... Unfortunately, as you will note, he was Oakley-less when he came up. Both of us went diving for them, to no avail. Since I went diving for them, I feel less guilty for posting this. Happy Friday the 13th!

Parking: $5
Swimming: Free
Running: Free
Seeing a 2008 Olympian in Triathlon practice: priceless

There are some things you can see on the Charles. For everything else, there's Walden Pond.

Bottom: Jarrod Shoemaker, 2008 US Olympic team, Triathlon
Top: Ethan Brown, 2007 US U-23 Triathlon Champion

The top matches the collars, but clashes with the hull. Rowing is ok, though. Good work, Meg.

Sir Velo was ready for racing on Friday

It was sunny, warm, not windy, and relatively uncrowded. Especially if you row at 8am. Cam, this is a fairly pathetic attempt, but who is this not-masked sculler?

New members are now coming in from the water too. Also in this picture--ridiculous amounts of pollen in the Charles.

Apparently, so was I... Not pictured--actual swimming. Probably just as well, since they shortened the swim by about a third due to fog. Results.

That's just cool reflection of the setting sun in Heather's blade. (Pic from Thursday night).

Isn't there a rule about erging between Memorial Day and Labor Day?

Wednesday, May 28, 2008

Other forms of racing... I suppose it's probably safer that they are on the "wrong" side of the river

Fun with Zombie and Photoshop

George's Island. Brett and Steve say--"Who needs slings when you got a perfectly good picnic table?"

Appropriately attired, Aleks rows off to the Cake concert during Earth Fest.

The top picture was taken fifteen minutes before the bottom one, both were taken from the Riverside porch. Like they say, if you don't like New England weather.. Sucks to be Radcliffe... Except for that bronze medal at Sprints and NCAA invite.

Once again, proving that kayakers have no f***ing clue where they are going.

Tuesday, May 20, 2008

Steve is still Steve. As we learned this morning.

Sometimes, I get flipped off not by one, but by two former national team lightweights. All in one day!

Actually taken on Tuesday night.. Nice sunset, eh?

I think John's taking his ballet articles on Rowing Illustrated a little too far...

We were in Houston Monday and Tuesday. I believe this picture is very reflective of my experience there.

Monday, May 05, 2008

The cool things is that somehow, all the five crews racing are in this shot, taken from the finish line. No mean feat if one of those crews is my alma mater, and one of the others is Radcliffe.

Staredown on the Charles. Harvard's Varsity edges out Northeastern in the basin.

All the fools with Drehers are busily checking their equipment, but the man with the Crokers is blowing kisses. Word.
