NU women taking some late-season strokes in the basin

Orion slowly rising above the skyline tonight.

Friends don't let friends go into the basin alone in November

It is often worth it once you get there, though.

Assistant coach Twiggs not enjoying the winter season

Dusk settling over the basin.

Sunday, November 19, 2017

Nice job Mary at today's lightweight scrimmage, 19:06 is pretty fast for November

And so is the 17:59 that Matt put up. And congrats to all who raced, and avoided the rain and wind... until the paddle back.

Nothing exciting ever happens at the Foot of the Charles.

Sun setting over the basin tonight.

I salute you, MIT novice woman, as (I think) the only person not to wear sleeves on Saturday.

Oh yes, mockery at its finest.

Monday, November 13, 2017

There is absolutely no doubt that the Charles River is mocking all of us who rowed on Saturday morning, hard. (Joke's on it, though, I went rowing at 3pm on Sunday, too).

Not winter if the HOCR banners are still up?

Sunday, November 12, 2017

Dear college athletes of New England, the Charles River is most definitely mocking you.

And so am I, but not nearly as much. And yes, that is a t-shirt.

BC High at sunset last night

BC catching rays (and a bit of frostbite this morning)

Winter is definitely coming

Cruising up to Anderson

Fall is happening.

Tuesday, November 07, 2017

Hannah and Claire in the basin last week.

Don't be deceived by the location of the pink clouds, this actually is sunrise.

On this edition of post-marathon Monday, the headline obviously goes to Shalane Flanigan, the first American winner of the New York City Marathon since 1977, pictured here running with the (then) three time defending champion Mary Keitany.

The silver bullet, Marcel Hug eventually dropped John Charles, and won by 2 minutes

Fellow Swiss competitor Manuela Schar had already separated from the pack on the way up 1st Ave.

On the other hand, men's winner Geoffrey Kamworor (white top) was very much in the middle of the pack, reflective of his eventual 3 second win

Former MIT and USNT coxwain Stephen Young ran a blistering 2:45.

But really, it's "regular" people that make the race

And some overcome far more obstacles than others.

The tribe is strong (and has great facial hair)!

This guy was pretty excited.

Parting shot of the elite women heading up 1st Ave.

My wife the marathoner! Pretty awesome, especially considering spending most of October on that whole rowing thing!

Saturday, November 04, 2017

It's like there is a big race here or something.

Typical HOCR traffic jam

Flying over some cracks in the ground last week.
