And we are outta here.

Shy Dyno Ocho in slo-mo. Footage capture by the Olympus Tough TG4 camera, attached to stake buoy with a hi-tech retention system (blue shoelace).

Classic.

I think one of these guys is not quite like the others.

Pre race meeting at the high stakes. Sean instructed everyone to take safety seriously, and to "F-up some smart kids". More on that later.

New sponsor/job, same regatta.

Ah, yes, there was, actually a regatta. The CrYmson TYgers (a Harvard/Princeton/Yale composite won). Team Gevvie member (and U23 bronze medalist) Emily Kallfelz raced in the mixed 2X. So, uhm, Sean, about those smart kids? (He was actually a very good sport about it). Only downside of them actually being kids--i.e collegiate athletes, is that the 5K in prize money had to be donated to charity. Their loss, Boston Children's Hospitals gain. .

And they celebrated appropriately, though next time, I am telling the ladies to line up in the back.

Team Shy Dyno, mostly operating along the Boston/Philly axis was second. Featuring Lib, Pete, Slice, Whelpley, Mary Jones, Dave Ringham, Sean Clarke, and a few more familiar faces. Not bad for a bunch of has-beens :)

Volks Varsity with yet another TG member, Cicely Madden was third. Captain Ned Benning was pleased. 2004 Olympic Champion Jason Read made an appearance at stroke seat. Leech was impressed. Hannah made a rare appearance with one oar.

CRI took the master's trophy.

And had by far the most bad ass racer of the day.

With all due respect to JR, Emily, Mary and 2017 U23 2X Gold Medallist Sam Meijer(above).

There was a bit of controversy with breakage in the Shimano vs. Crymson Tigers semifinal, which was eventually settled with a re-row.

However, it turned out to be a moot point, due to a bit of an arithmetic error on the part of Team Shimano.

In the end, Grasso wants you to have a good time, and stay hydrated AF. Kudos to co-announcers Mike Farry and Eliza Hershey Van Lennep.

Practice started before the sun was up for the US Lightweight Men's quad.

The sun showed up soon enough

Even got some daylight on Will, Jake, Brendan and Jack.

Thanks to Tom and Judith for the launch ride.

Angles look good.

The best kind of sunset cruise.

Tried to do a multiple exposure of the sun and the moon in the same frame. Result was a little bit weird.

Sculler in one corner, new moon in another corner, sunset in the middle. What else do you need, really?

Racing at Canley

More from the eclipse

Monday, August 21, 2017

About 10 minutes of the solar eclipse in one frame. Shot at intervals of about 135 seconds.

A CBC sculler emerges from the shadows.

(Mostly) junior meatwagon on the prowl before Canley.

Head for the sun

Beatrice and Sara Beth(I think) in the spotlight.

Exploring upstream. Played around with a point and shoot, mini-tripod, and the timer/burst functions on the camera.

New boat, who 'dis?

Very nice of the sun to find the hole in the skyline and rise there.

Thursday, August 17, 2017

I do wonder if this the same Peinert Mark, Eugune and I rowed as undergrads.

New tracks at dawn.

Wednesday, August 16, 2017

Hey wait a minute, I know that guy.

Playing with the clouds again.

Tuesday, August 15, 2017

Going for extra credit. Cicely and Elizabeth took a shot at senior trials after coming back from U23 Worlds.

Monday after Canadian Henley did not disappoint.

9:30 am on a Saturday morning.

Friday morning was also pretty good.
